FOR COUNTRY CAUCUS ENDORSES BIPARTISAN FREED VETS ACT

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the For Country Caucus formally endorsed the bipartisan Federally Requiring Earned Education-Debt Discharges for Veterans Act (FREED Vets Act).  Introduced by Representative Conor Lamb (PA-17) along with Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14), Joe Courtney (CT-02) and Andy Levin (MI-09), the legislation would require the U.S. Department of Education to automatically discharge federal student loan debt for eligible permanently disabled veterans.

LAMB INTRODUCES THE ENDING PASSENGER RAIL FORCED ARBITRATION ACT

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Representatives Conor Lamb (PA-17) and Denny Heck (WA-10) introduced H.R. 6101, the Ending Passenger Rail Forced Arbitration Act.   On January 1, 2019, Amtrak revised its requirement that legal action against the company be resolved through a mandatory arbitration process.  Under this change customers waive their right to sue Amtrak in a U.S. court for any reason with the purchase of an Amtrak ticket.  H.R.

FEMA APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN FOR FIREFIGHTER GRANT PROGRAMS

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Representative Conor Lamb (PA-17) announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is now accepting applications for multiple firefighter grant programs: Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG); Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER); and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S).  The application period for all programs closes on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

These grants are available to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services organizations and State Fire Training Academies.
