Press Release
(WASHINGTON, DC) – As part of the ongoing federal budget appropriations process for fiscal year 2020, the House adopted four amendments sponsored by Representative Conor Lamb (PA-17) this week.
"These are smart investments in programs that protect jobs, protect our energy grid, protect our servicemembers and assist local farmers, and important examples of how our government can support the great work being done by Western Pennsylvanians every day," said Lamb.
The following four amendments were led by Lamb and included in H.R. 2740 and H.R. 3055:
Energy & Water Appropriations – H.R. 2740: Lamb sponsored this bipartisan amendment with Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) for the Office of Nuclear Energy to emphasize research and development into increasing the cost effectiveness and efficiency of nuclear power plants. Nuclear energy, including the Beaver Valley Power Station in Beaver County, is the nation’s largest source of carbon-free electricity, providing reliable power to the grid, supporting thousands of jobs, and playing a key role in strengthening national security.
Agriculture Appropriations – H.R. 3055: Lamb cosponsored Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s (MA-7) amendment that increases Farm to School grants by $1 million. This program allows school districts to buy food from local farmers and teach children about food and agriculture through garden and classroom education.
Agriculture Appropriations – H.R. 3055: Lamb sponsored an amendment that provides an additional $200,000 for Farm to School technical assistance. This funding will help make it easier for schools to buy food from local farmers.
Defense Appropriations – H.R. 2740: Lamb, along with Rep. Mike Doyle (PA-18), cosponsored Rep. Joe Wilson’s (SC-2) amendment that provides an additional $4.8 million for U.S. Army research and development to mitigate musculoskeletal injury risk and optimize bone and muscle adaptation for military physical training.
H.R. 2740 consists of four FY 2020 appropriations bills that fund federal agencies including the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, Defense, State, and Energy. H.R. 3055 consists of five FY 2020 appropriations bills: Commerce-Justice-Science, Agriculture-Rural Development-FDA, Interior-Environment, Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, and Transportation-Housing and Urban Development.
