HOUSE COMMITTEE ON VETERANS' AFFAIRS APPOINTS CONGRESSMAN LAMB AS RANKING MEMBER ON NEW SUBCOMMITTEE ON TECHNOLOGY MODERNIZATION
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs (HVAC) approved the creation and leadership of a new Subcommittee on Technology Modernization, appointing Congressman Conor Lamb (PA-18) as Ranking Member. This appointment was approved by a vote of the membership of the HVAC Committee. The Technology Modernization Subcommittee will focus on oversight of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) technology projects, including the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Modernization program.
“Caring for our nation’s veterans must be our top priority as we work to create a more efficient and effective healthcare system at the VA. As a veteran, I am honored to have been appointed ranking member of this Subcommittee, and am committed to ensuring that the work to modernize the VA is done in a way that protects and empowers our veterans, not only in Southwestern Pennsylvania, but across the country,” said Congressman Lamb.
The State of Pennsylvania has more than 800,000 living veterans, with more than 250,000 in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Veterans’ Affairs of Pittsburgh Hospital System (VAPHS) conducts about 2,000 outpatient visits each day.
The VA EHR Modernization program is a $16 billion project to create an efficient and accurate electronic record system, compatible with an ongoing employee health record modernization at the Department of Defense, that can prevent disruptions in patient care, protect the privacy of veterans, and ensure American taxpayer dollars are invested responsibly.
